We strive to provide the greatest clarity and understanding about our course offerings and operations. Thank you for your interest in the Scientia Institute!

Q: What credentials does a new chaplain walk away with after completing the Scientia Institute for Christian Studies Chaplaincy Foundations course?

A: Graduates of the Scientia Institute for Christian Studies Chaplaincy Foundations course walk away with the following credentials:

  • Certificate of ordination in Chaplaincy and the Gospel Ministry

    • Ordination is non-revocable as it is an affirmation of evidence that the heart and spirit of servant leadership and submission to the work of the Gospel ministry has been recognized in the student, and they are consecrated into that Office by the ecclesial leadership of the Sayahwoord Mentorship Bible Church

  • A License to operate and function as a Chaplain under the covering and administration of the Sayahword Ministry Alliance Chaplaincy

    • Licenses must be renewed every three years and require recertification to ensure updated or revised chaplaincy policies and requirements are imparted, understood, and applied in their chaplaincy work.

    • If a license expires and is not renewed, the chaplain can continue to work as a chaplain with all rights thereto. However, they will not be covered or under the administration of the Sayahword Ministerial Alliance, and their badge number and license will be decommissioned.

Q: What does a new graduate do once the ceremony is completed? Does the newly ordained Chaplain begin networking? Go back to their church?

A: Once a Sayahword Ministry Alliance Chaplaincy student has graduated, they begin their journey of volunteerism to develop and hone the knowledge, methodologies, and skills they obtained in the chaplaincy foundation class. Scientia Institute faculty and staff are instrumental in establishing opportunities for volunteerism at our marketplace partnerships throughout the United States. This allows them to implement everything they have learned and develop their aptitude and awareness as chaplains.

Q: Is there a resource team or an individual that provides a certain level of support weeks after the ceremony?

A: Yes. All graduates interested in continuing their growth and development as chaplains, particularly pursuant to becoming a board-certified chaplain in Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE), are assigned a CPE Supervisor to help guide and mentor them in that journey.

Q: What happens to the credentials if the institution no longer exists or dissolves?

A: In the unlikely event that the Institute as an establishment no longer exists, the ordination certificate maintains I’s value and authenticity. We at the Sayahword Ministry Alliance, a subsidiary of the Sayahword Mentorship Bible Church, believe that ordination is the acknowledgment of men affirming what God has already decreed or established and cannot, therefore, be revoked by man.

However, the licenses and associations provided by licensure would ultimately be null and void. This in no way limits the chaplain who has been disciplined, equipped, and set apart for the work, and they are competent and activated by the power of the Holy Spirit to continue in the chaplain ministry.

Q: How Do I Become a Board-Certified Chaplain?

A: To become a board-certified chaplain, one must complete the Chaplaincy Foundations course curriculum, four modules of CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education) coursework, and 1600 hours of clinical practical application of what you have learned. These hours can be acquired by volunteering at hospice centers, hospitals, prisons, police stations, palliative care homes, and any facility that offers opportunities for chaplains to volunteer and gain experience.

These experiences are considered clinical hours and must be tracked and reported to qualify. These hours must also be under the governance of a CPE Supervisor.

Q: How much does it cost to take the class?

A: Courses at the Scientia Institute for Christian Studies have varying rates. Inquire with our admission office about our list of open courses and enrollment costs.

  • Some discount opportunities are available for those who qualify.

Q: How are classes held, and the materials disseminated?

A: Classes are held virtually via platforms like Zoom or Google Meet (via the Google Classroom learning management systems) and in in-person, instructor-led environments, depending on the geographical location. All classes have virtual/remote classroom sessions. However, in-person instructor

Q: How Large are the classes (class size)?

A: We must have a minimum of 5 students registered for classes to be sanctioned. Classes are considered full once 20 students have completed registration and been enrolled.
